iPhone 15 Pro: Lighter But Thicker

The soon-to-be-revealed iPhone 15 series is making waves in the tech world. The high-end model, iPhone 15 Pro, has adopted a new titanium material, making it significantly lighter than its predecessor. Recent reports by Bloomberg indicate that the iPhone 15 Pro could be up to 10% lighter compared to the iPhone 14 Pro.

Leading IT outlet, MacRumors, on September 10th (local time), shared exclusive insights about the exact dimensions and weight of Apple's next-gen smartphone series. Contrary to initial speculations, the iPhone 15's dimensions – thickness at 7.8mm, length 147.6mm, width 71.6mm, and weight 171g – do not differ much from the iPhone 14, which measured at a thickness of 7.8mm, length 146.7mm, width 71.5mm, and weight 172g.

Insiders suggest that the iPhone 15 continues with the same chassis material, the 6013 T6 aluminum, similar to the iPhone 14. Though the exact measurements of the iPhone 15 Plus remain unconfirmed, it's anticipated to be akin to its predecessor.

A rendered image of the iPhone 15 Pro in a striking blue shade was released by MacRumors. For the iPhone 15 Pro, the dimensions are expected to be – thickness at 8.25mm, length 146.6mm, width 70.6mm, and weight 188g. This means it's lighter in weight, shorter in length, narrower in width, but slightly thicker than the iPhone 14 Pro, which had a thickness of 7.85mm, length 147.5mm, width 71.5mm, and weighed 206g.

This reduction in weight can be attributed to the change in material to Grade 5 titanium, a titanium alloy known for its superior corrosion resistance and is widely used across various industries.

Interestingly, the iPhone 15 Pro's thickness has increased to 8.25mm, deviating from the thinness strategy previously employed by smartphone manufacturers. MacRumors speculates that this increased thickness could overshadow the slim bezels incorporated in the iPhone 15 Pro.

The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are expected to feature the 'LIPO (Low-Injection Pressure Over-molding)' technology, which will reduce the bezel size from the previous 2.2mm to approximately 1.55mm.

Predictions for the iPhone 15 Pro Max put its dimensions at a thickness of 8.25mm, length 159.9mm, width 76.7mm, and weight 221g, making it lighter than its predecessor, which was 7.85mm thick, 160.7mm long, 77.6mm wide, and weighed 240g.
